The Problem

We were struggling with one major issue: list control.

Every time we ran a campaign, our team had to manually export segmented HubSpot contacts and upload them into Mailchimp. Not only was this time-consuming and error-prone, but it also made it difficult to ensure the right contact ended up in the right list.

We didn’t want to sync our entire HubSpot CRM into Mailchimp—that would’ve flooded our Mailchimp account with irrelevant contacts and ruined our segmentation.

We needed:

  • A way to control which contacts were synced

  • A system that allowed us to assign contacts to specific Mailchimp lists

  • And above all, a solution that didn’t require hours of manual work

The Solution: GrowthSync

That’s when we found GrowthSync—an integration built just for HubSpot and Mailchimp users like us.

What we loved instantly:

  • It didn’t sync everything blindly. We got to choose which HubSpot contacts go to Mailchimp.

  • It created a custom dropdown in HubSpot called “Mailchimp Contact List.”

  • That dropdown let us select a Mailchimp list for each contact—right inside HubSpot.

  • New lists in Mailchimp? They automatically showed up in the dropdown. No syncing headaches.

Now, when we update a contact in HubSpot, we simply assign them to the right Mailchimp list. Done.

The Impact

Since using GrowthSync, here’s how our workflow has changed:

  • No more exports/imports. We manage everything inside HubSpot.

  • Campaigns are faster. Lists are pre-filtered and ready.

  • Our segmentation improved. Every contact lands exactly where they need to.

  • Automation works like magic. As soon as a contact is added to a Mailchimp list, the welcome series or nurturing workflow kicks off.

HubSpot’s Free plan is ideal for businesses that want a built-in CRM with basic email marketing capabilities. It allows up to 1,000 marketing contacts and 2,000 email sends per month, making it suitable for small teams managing limited outreach. While HubSpot’s Free tier includes strong CRM features, it lacks marketing automation, advanced segmentation, and A/B testing unless you upgrade to a paid Marketing Hub plan. The platform is designed more as an all-in-one CRM with marketing tools as an extension.

Mailchimp, on the other hand, is more email-marketing focused. Its Free plan includes 500 contacts and allows 1,000 monthly email sends, but quickly becomes limited for growing needs. However, its Essentials and Standard plans offer scalable contact and send limits, automation workflows, A/B testing, and advanced segmentation at a lower cost than HubSpot’s premium tiers. For users mainly focused on email campaigns and audience management, Mailchimp offers more flexibility and features at each pricing level.
